Water Boosting around the stage killing stuff is also really fun, but maybe not so practical. Rolling towards enemies to whack them makes you feel pretty good. Hammerhead Tear through a wall close enough to hit an enemy through it without cutting through for safe, tactical melee assaults.Ĭharacter Breakdown Fish Can pick up more ammo for energy weapons. Not really an amazing mutation, but it has it's uses. Nice in places like the caves since you'll be able to get over webs quickly to approach enemies. Extra Feet Let's you run up on dangerous enemies quickly. Rabbit Paw Same idea as Back Muscle, allows you to stock up on ammo easier if you're using late game energy weapons. Double energy weapons are usually more efficient than + because you'll be promised Energy ammo every time ammo drops. Back Muscle Great mutation if you rock double energy melee weapons, allows you to stock up on ammo while tearing through stages. Pair it up with Bloodlust to get a pretty dirty regen build, especially on loops. Sharp Teeth Similar idea as Gamma Guts, if you get hit, so does everyone else. Also will soften up stronger HP enemies to increase your chance of 1-shotting them with weapons that may not normally be able to. Impact Wrists Melee weapons usually have a good kick to them once they slay an enemy, so throwing enemies even harder into their allies is quite useful. You're gonna be up close to lots of goons, so being able to instantly kill the weaker ones and at least punish the guys that jump on you is pretty nice. Gamma Guts Useful in a pinch, even if you're not used to taking it. Melee runs will probably want a Jackhammer, Shovel, or Ultra Shovel and Eagle Eyes reduces their efficiency quite a bit, especially because overlapped melee damage does not stack. Arguably makes Energy Sword and Energy Hammer better weapons than Ultra Shovel. While not necessary for Energy Hammer, it modifies that as well, amping the damage way up. The modification on the damage is pretty insane. Laser Brain If there's any chance you'll be using an Energy Screwdriver or Energy Sword, pick up Laser Brain.

Scarier Face A necessity for Shovel to carry any real distance (many 2-shot enemies become 1-shot), and useful for any weapon or run no matter what. I wouldn't normally take both, but might take Trigger Fingers after Stress if offered depending on my load out, though I would almost never take Stress if I already have Trigger Fingers.

If you can't get Trigger Fingers, it doesn't hurt to get this just to give yourself some increased swing speed. Stress The bleeding man's Trigger Fingers. With the right build, Shovel and Sledgehammer one-shot a majority of enemies up until the Palace, making Trigger Fingers really useful. Trigger Fingers Most early game melee weapons don't even cost ammo, so it's useful to be accurate with your swings to get quick kills. Mutation Breakdown Long Arms Better reach, not -necessary- for any melee weapon, but very -useful- for all of them, makes life easier in general. I have a pretty good amount of experience, but there are quite a number of players better than me, though I do consider myself a very high level player. SWORDSAINT'S MELEE WEAPON BIBLE Below is just my opinion of the mutations, characters and weapons that fall in line with the idea of a melee-only run.
